Tajima

The best Ramen I ever had in San Diego is at Tajima in Kearny Mesa at 4681 Convoy Street. When you think of Ramen, you think of instant quick cups that have some seasoning and little tiny shrimps that can be finished in two minutes. The Ramen I am referring to is nothing like that. To describe what ramen is; it’s a soup with a base of miso, soy sauce, or with salt. It then has noodles, green onions, a half boiled egg and usually has bbq pork in it. In Tajima you can add extra items into the soup. In my ramen I added extra kimchi and a seafood mix. This soup was to die for. The first thing you smell is the sea in your bowl, it then has this soy sauce smell. The first spoonful had a spicy kick to it because of the kimchi. In the seafood mix there was oyster, shrimp and octopus. The bbq beef was a little dry, but it was still good. The best part is the noodles, which were soft and stretchy. The soup was extremely hot, which burnt my mouth but it was still good.

The quality of the food is exceptional which can be seen in the broth and the fish. The fish tasted fresh and the green onions that are on top on if are fresh as well. The service was really good, the waiters were nice and provided the food very fast. It took a little over 12 minutes to receive my food. The cost was about 13 bucks and this was really a good price for a whole bowl of soup, which was very filling.

This has been the best restaurant that I have critiqued and has captured the essences that San Diego can have authentic real food. The really amazing part of this restaurant is that even though it's an all authentic Japanese restaurant, you will not find sushi here at all which is great idea if you want to diversify in Japanese cuisine. Its a place that every San Diegan should go to.
